WHAT IS TIME LINE THERAPY®?
The concept of a Time Line isn't something that's new. It was Aristotle who was the first to mention the "stream of time". Also back in the early 1890's, William James talked about the linear memory storage. The latest development in NLP, Time Line Therapy® techniques are a revolutionary and powerfully effective method for creating lasting change in coaching, business, education, and also in a therapeutic context.
Time Line Therapy® was developed by Dr Tad James in 1985. After years of development, working with clients and publishing Time Line Therapy® and The Basis Personality, Dr Tad James, has become known worldwide for his Time Line Therapy® model.
Essentially, Time Line Therapy® is a collection of techniques that allow you to gain emotional control over your life. Inappropriate emotional reactions, such as bursts of anger, periods of apathy, depression, sadness, anxiety, and chronic fear, are responsible for preventing people from achieving the quality of life they desire. Limiting decisions, such as "I'm not good enough," "I'll never be rich," or "I don't deserve a great marriage," create false limitations and hamper your ability to create reachable and attainable goals and outcomes. Time Line Therapy® techniques enable you to eliminate many types of issues in your past, thus allowing you to move forward toward your goals and desires.
HOW DOES TIME LINE THERAPY® WORK?
Time Line Therapy® uses the individual's own internal “Time Line” by working with their Unconscious Mind. NLP & Time Line Therapy® proposes that the unconscious mind encodes and stores all our memories and experiences. This enables us to keep track of time, even though only a very small fraction of this vast information is in our conscious awareness. The unconscious mind represents the memories in a linear fashion, which is called the Time Line. With Time Line Therapy®, a person can identify where their Time Line ithrough active imagination and pointing in the direction of the past and then the future and imagining a line between these two points. About 98% of the population finds the orientation of their Time Line relative to their body either stretching from behind them to in front, or from left to right. The orientation of the Time Line can give the Time Line Therapy® practitioner valuable information on how the client experiences life and relates to the past and the future.
On the level of the unconscious mind, memories that contain a specific negative emotion or limiting belief, such as I am not good enough are chained together in a sequence of events, called the Gestalt. Rather than focusing on individual events, Time Line Therapy® releases the entire Gestalt, beginning with the very first event of the problem until the present moment. This allows the individual to completely eliminate negative emotions and limiting beliefs from the unconscious storage, including those which could not be consciously processed. The fact that Time Line Therapy® does not require the client to remember or relive potentially traumatic events is one the distinguishing aspects of this gentle process.
In addition to the release of unwanted emotions, Time Line Therapy® provides subconscious learnings and deeper understanding of the past, which supports personal growth.
The release of a negative emotion or limiting beliefs with Time Line Therapy® takes usually from a few minutes to one hour. In order to test the success of the therapy, the client thinks about a specific event that before Time Line Therapy® used to bring up the negative emotion or belief. Since the basics of this process are relatively easy to learn, the client is empowered by the successful release to work consciously with the unconscious mind and utilize this technique by themselves in the future. Time Line Therapy® has been proven to be highly effective in treatment of depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well chronic physical conditions, that involve emotional and psychological components. In addition, people who suffer from low self-esteem or feel stuck in their lives can benefit greatly from this process. It is the Creating Your Future® (CYF) process (normaly done at the end of a Time Line Therapy® intervention) that for many transforms their lives. Once you have released the negative emotions and limiting decisions that have been holding you back, you can now create your ideal future with the CYF® process. This is done by identifying your goals & outcomes, ensuring that they are S.M.A.R.T, and then taking the energised internal respresentation of the end step out into your future time line and then droping it in the time line watching all the events realine themselves supporting your goal.
